FOIA Requests

The Illinois Freedom of Information Act is a law intended to open the government to all citizens by guaranteeing access to governmental records in whatever form they are maintained. The Village Clerk serves as the FOIA Officer to fill all requests for public documents in accordance with state law.

The request is for EXISTING documents held in the Village of Yates City files. The Village is NOT required to create a document or report, nor does it require us to respond with an answer to a question.  Most requests will be processed within 5 days.  However, if the requests require coordination with outside contractors, research or are unusually large, the Village will request additional time to respond within the time period allowed by law.  Requests of a commercial nature are subject to different regulations which extends the response time permitted by law.

To successfully obtain the document you need, please be as specific as possible. Provide any specific information you may have, such as date or time of incident on a police report, which will narrow the scope of our search and make it more likely you will receive the information you need. If there is a report name or number please include that.

For questions regarding FOIA requests, please call the Village Clerk.
