Freedom of Information Act

The request is for EXISTING documents held in the Village of Yates City files. The Village is NOT required to create a document or report, nor does it require us to respond with an answer to a question.  Most requests will be processed within 5 days.  However, if the requests require coordination with outside contractors, research or are unusually large, the Village will request additional time to respond within the time period allowed by law.  Requests of a commercial nature are subject to different regulations which extends the response time permitted by law. 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE

The Village of Yates City is a unit of local government organized under the laws of the State of Illinois and governed by a Village President and Board of Trustees. The Village conducts municipal business, maintains public records, and provides local government services for the benefit of its residents and community.

OPERATING BUDGET

The Village's total operating budget is adopted annually by the Village Board. Current year budget is $1,041,244.77. The Village's annual Appropriations Ordinance and Treasurer's Reports are available under Annual Appropriations and Financial Reports & Budgets and are available for inspection at Village Hall, and may be provided upon request pursuant to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.

  • The Village of Yates City affirms to follow the compliance requirements of the Act. However, the Act is not intended to require that the Village interpret or advise requestors as to the meaning or significance of any public record.  The Act does not unreasonably require the Village to create a record that does not exist.

The fee for records is as follows:

Black and white copies (legal or letter), no charge for first 50 pages, $0.15 per page thereafter.

Certification:  $1.00

Maps:  $5.00

Mailing:  Cost of Postage

All fees must be paid prior to the release of records.  All fees must be paid in cash by cashier’s or certified check or by money order prior to copying, certification and/or mailing any public record.
